College Workforce Development 

The College Workforce Development program supports youth between 18- 24 years of age by connecting them with STEM and Healthcare career advisers/mentors, college advising, certification and license advising, and further development of workforce skills training, and employment assistance with STEM and Healthcare employers in their field. 

 

Providing assistance and resources to youth of the surrounding Westside Chicago communities is central to Rush's commitment to be a catalyst for community health and vitality by dismantling barriers to health (e.g. disparities in education, employment, healthcare, and other areas), and by promoting health equity both within and outside of Rush.

Capital Projects Summer Student Intern - Rush University Medical Center

Compensation: $14 - $16 per hour

Position Highlights:

Under a degree of supervision, the Student Intern assists construction project managers in assembling project documents, attending project meetings and construction site walk-throughs, reviewing space plans and generally assisting in the ongoing administrative work in the department.  

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist CPM(s) uploading information such as reports, letters, emails into the project management system (e-Builder)

  • Attends project meetings and assists with developing meeting agendas, writing meeting minutes and tracking issues

  • Works with CPM(s) to assemble design plans and help review the plans for coordination purposes

  • Assist CPM(s) with organizing and comparing constructions bids

  • Conduct project site inspections with CPM(s) and documents those visits by way on construction field reports

  • Works with CPM(s) and cost accountants to assemble design and construction cost estimates and all the appropriate documentation

  • For projects in an activation phase will help the activation team order misc. items and coordinate all activities leading up to move-in

  • Assist project planners in reviewing, measuring and allocating space for renovation projects

  • General administrative duties as required in the department.

 

 

Position Qualifications Include:

  • High School degree/GED with some college

  • Full-time student with architecture, engineering, construction management or related field of interest.

  • Must possess manual dexterity, a willingness to learn the maintenance and repair of new equipment, flexibility in adapting to new techniques, and the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and medical staff personnel.

  • Able to work independently in a dynamic environment with different types of people.

  • Basic skills in using office applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to focus on multiple tasks at the same time along with good communication skills (such as writing, listening and speaking.)

  • Must be able to lift/carry architectural plans/documents (up to 30 lbs.) and be able to walk/stand for up to an hour without difficulty in order to attend construction site meetings/survey.

Project Coordinator - Rush University Medical Center

Full-Time Position, 1st Shift

Position Highlights:

The Project Coordinator/Construction Project Assistant (PC/CPA) will provide project support and is responsible for assisting in all job tasks as required by the Construction Project Manager(s). The PC/CPA has discretionary ability to work with contractors and clients to solve daily business problems for CPM(s) with little or no direction.  

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist CPM(s) with project initiation, planning, development, monitoring, and close-out processes/procedures.

  • Assist CPM(s) with project Activation (e.g.: check-in, placement of FF&E, coordination of “Go-Live” activities)

  • Assist CPM(s) with final project close out. Gather all documentation for warranty, permits, O&M Manuals, CAD file / life safety drawings transfer, and final billings. Ensure close-out with Fixed Assets has been achieved in the allotted 90-180 day period.

  • Assist CPM(s) with project monitoring; editing construction budgets, input budget changes, request, etc.

  • Collate all potential change orders (PCO’s) into correct Change Order (CO) packages. Prepare and/or revised purchase orders/budget requests associated with CO’s.

  • At the CPM’s direction, initiate project processes in e-Builder, such as Purchase Order Requisitions, PO Requisition Revisions, Pre-construction Project Risk Assessment, End of Project Checklist (EOC), etc.

  • Serve as liaison between CPM(s) with contractors and clients as required; schedule construction meetings as necessary. Attend construction meetings, take meeting minutes and produce project memoranda for review/distribution.

  • Produce proposals, plans and reports of varying complexity as necessary or as directed by CPM(s) for a variety of construction and/or staff meetings.

  • Provides general project and administrative support to multiple CPM(s).

 

Position Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or an Associate’s Degree with 1-2 years of administrative management experience) is required.

  • Familiarity of a Hospital construction environment is desirable but not necessary.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in using office applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Require strong organizational skills and the ability to focus on multiple tasks at the same time along with good communication skills (such as writing, listening and speaking).

  • Working knowledge of eBuilder ™ (project management program) a plus but not required as is the ability to read architectural and engineering plans (REQUIRED: must be able to read architectural and engineering plans before end of probation period).

  • Must be able to lift/carry architectural plans/documents (up to 30 lbs.) and be able to walk/stand for up to an hour without difficulty in order to attend construction site meetings/surveys.

Information Center - Rush Oak Park Hospital

Information Center Reps in the ROPH Volunteer Office are located on the first floor of the Hospital, and provide customer service to all patients, visitors and staff.  Responsibilities include greeting and assisting all visitors and patients in a helpful and courteous manner; providing directions and information; providing security badges for visitors; escorting of patients to desired locations throughout the hospital (including wheelchair transport). We have both sitting and “roaming” positions available.

           

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team. Must be enthusiastic, friendly, dependable, and flexible.

  • Must enjoy interacting with the public and be able to communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English fluently.

  • Prefer physically fit and able to push/pull a wheelchair unassisted.

  • Applicants should be adults 18 years of age or older who are interested in providing customer service to our visitors and guests.

Front Desk Laboratory Volunteer - Rush Oak Park Hospital

Front Desk Laboratory volunteers assist staff in providing a more efficient and effective working environment. Under the Direction of the Head Phlebotomist, responsibilities include: Greeting visitors   and patients and providing appropriate information and/or directions; maintaining organization of waiting room and front desk area; answering phones, transferring calls, taking messages; messenger runs; transporting specimens and clerical assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional customer service skills; should be enthusiastic, friendly, dependable, and flexible.

  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English fluently.

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems or contact a staff person when appropriate; ability to follow directions from supervisor when emergency arises.

  • Ability to handle several tasks/customers at one time.

  • Must be physically fit; able to stand for four hours and transport supplies.

  • Applicants should be adults 19 years of age or older who are interested in working in a health care environment or professional laboratory setting. 

  • Weekly, consistent attendance is a priority. A long term commitment of 96 hours is required, with one four hour shift per week for 6 months.

Shifts available: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons noon-4pm.

Information Technology (IT) volunteer - Rush Oak Park Hospital

IT volunteers assist staff in providing a more efficient and effective working environment. Volunteer    duties may include: entry level IT break fix; keyboard replacement; PC moves; PC installs and general IT related help including the moving of equipment and supplies around the Hospital. Entry level position only.

 

Qualifications:

  • A passion for IT and Technology, along with a background with computers including mobile devices is preferred.

  • Exceptional customer service skills; should be enthusiastic, friendly, dependable, and flexible. Must be able to read, write understand and speak English fluently.

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems or contact a staff person when appropriate; ability to follow directions from supervisor when an emergency arises.

  • Must be physically fit; able to stand for four hours and transport supplies.

  • Applicants should be adults 19 years of age or older who are interested in the IT and/or health care field.

  • Long term commitment requires one-four hour shift per week for a period of six months, a total of 96 hours.

 

 

Shift Times

Shifts available include weekday mornings 9am-1pm or afternoons 1-5pm. Some flexibility in shift time is available.
