Pre-Internship 

What is the MedSTEM Pre-Internship program?

The MedSTEM Pre-Internship is a 6-week program that focuses on the career exploration, college readiness, and career readiness. Students will attend courses two days a week on a variety of topics and present a capstone research project at the end of the 6 weeks.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 8:30am -4:30pm

Expectations

Students will engage in hands-on learning to strengthen communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. In addition to skills development for high education and career, students will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials.
By integrating technical knowledge and social emotional learning, MedSTEM Pathways leverages experiential learning for self-efficacy, job readiness, and leadership in the STEM/healthcare fields

Eligibility Requirements

  • Minimum 2.5 weighted GPA
  • Rising Sophomore by Summer 2018
  • 90% Attendance Record
  • Must attend or be applicable for at least one of the following:
    • Crane Medical Preparatory
    • Juarez Community Academy
    • Instituto Health Sciences Academy
    • Michele Clark Magnet
    • OR previous SAME Network participant
    • OR be engaged with one of our community partners

Career Exploration

Students will be able to explore careers through workshop, research, and discussions about their chosen fields with real professionals

College Readiness 

Students will gain valuable knowledge about their match schools, FAFSA, students loans, student resources, available scholarships, graduate school, and other financial literacy knowledge to gain their degree quickly and efficiently.

Workforce Skills Development

Students will attend courses and training that help promote vital work ethics and professionalism skills encouraging a competent, safe, and reliable worker.

Connect with students from west-side Chicago communities schools that surround the Rush University Medical Center
