What is the MedSTEM Pathways Internship program?
The Internship is a 6-10 week, paid, program at Rush University Medical Center. Students will have hands-on learning experiences with departments and units in the hospital that that they plan to pursue as a career, college and career readiness courses, life skills and workforce skills development courses, and a chance to network with other students and healthcare professionals.
Whether you’re interested in entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare, law, media, research, or any other field, we help motivated high school students make the most of their summer, fall, and spring and make more informed decisions about college and career plans.

Industry Recognized Credentials
Students will be given the opportunity to take courses that provide industry recognized certifications (CNA, PCT, etc.) and early college credit.
Hands-On Learning
Students will work alongside doctors, nurses, technicians, and tradesmen/women receiving on-the-job learning about specific procedures and tasks that relate to the profession.

What additional items will I need to complete my applicationStudents will need to provide a resume, letter of recommendation, medical shot records, and an unofficial transcript in order to complete the application.

How do I know when I have been accepted into the program?Students will receive an email no later than May 1 from the program coordinator of REACH MedSTEM Pathways.

Can my friends join the program?All students are welcome to apply. Priority students will be selected from the four partnered schools and community partners. However, outside applications may be selected if there is space provided.

How many weeks is the program?Depending on the session, the internship can range from 6-10 weeks. Spring Session 2019: Jan 14 - March 29 Summer Session 2019: June 24 - Aug 2 Fall Session 2019: Sept 16 - Nov 29

How much time will be spent at Rush?Student internships range between 20-30hrs of work and class time in the summer. There will be one Friday set aside for a field trip. However, in the Spring and Fall, you will be expected to complete 20 hours per week after school, on days off, or on the weekend and there will be no classes.

Is there any flexibility in my schedule?In the Summer session, flexibility varies from person to person, however students must complete the entire 6-week program. In the Spring and Fall sessions, there is more flexibility due to school requirements.

How many days of the program can I miss?Students must be consistent and complete the entire 6 weeks in the Summer. Absences are noticed and taken into account by all staff and personnel at REACH. You cannot subsitute days from the Summer session in the Spring/Fall.

How many sessions can I do a year?All interns MUST complete the Summer session each year in the program. In addition to the Summer, students are able to sign-up for the Spring/Fall internship session. You cannot do all three sessions unless given special permissions. You cannot subsitute the Spring/Fall session for the Summer session.
